RUTUS ULTRA Metal Detector

I bought this machine well over 15 years ago to evaluate Rutus with a view to becoming the main UK importer, but other business got in the way. It has been used around 10 times, and not for very long each time. There are a few small spots of white paint on the search head but these will scrape off with a thumb nail. Generally it is in very good condition. There is no search head cover (never was).

This machine is nothing short of spectacular for performance, it's NOT the deepest but with a 9.75V pk-pk transmit signal and an operating frequency of 7.88KHz it performs about as well as a Tesoro Tejon. Where this machine REALLY shines if in it's ability to literally "see through" iron. You can set the discriminate to knock out a pair of pliers, then put a coin in the jaws of the pliers and it will sound off on the coin! Another area where this machine unexpectedly performs very well is on wet sand. OK, you get the usual cut-back loss of around 33% depth, but you also get a nice smooth threshold.

I THINK I know how the designer has done this, but it is still VERY clever non-the-less. If I were going to pick a machine for the Thames foreshore then THIS would be it. It's light, has good depth on wet sand, and a fast response to targets in close proximity.

It weighs 1.5Kg but feel a LOT lighter. It has a 9.5" concentric search head with VERY good ability to winkle out" small objects from junk and a very good response speed. It runs off 6 X AA batteries which fit into the rear of the control case. TIP: You might like to add your own stand as when you set the detector down, water can get into the battery box and make the terminals a little flaky.

I just wrap a carrier bag round it. Finally, it has motion and non-motion modes, the non motion mode has a nice slow retune time.

It is silent search so good idea to just sweep your spade over the head once in a while just in case the flaky batter terminals had happened again (rarely). No manual, but Im sure if you are a seasones detectorist, you can figure things out. Ill help all I can it you get stuck though.
